Iced

New York Times Bestselling Author and Agatha Award Nominee!

Warning: This is not a standard Tim Myers cozy mystery novel. It has graphic language and adult situations that my regular readers may find offensive, so be aware!

When Cusp breaks out of prison, there are two things he must do; see his daughter, and kill the man who put him behind bars, Parrick Wolf. As a snowstorm takes over the sleepy little town of Alder Springs, Wolf battles the elements as well as the killer, and must search for his girlfriend’s missing daughter along the way.

Abandon remains on the list at #4.

Access to Power

Three weeks before a crucial senatorial election, a man is gunned down execution-style in a D.C. office. Police are quick to call it a case of robbery gone bad, but Frank Miles suspects something far more sinister behind the murder of his business partner.

Washington's most feared image maker, Frank's ruthless media manipulation has earned him countless admirers...and just as many enemies. Now, for the first time in his life, Frank's met his match in a shadowy schemer as clever as himself--but far more lethal.

As the body count rises, Frank becomes the U.S. Attorney's chief suspect--and a cunning killer's next target. From the underground tunnels networking Capitol Hill to the dome high above, his race for the truth--and his life--will bring him face-to-face with power at its deadliest extremes--where winning isn't everything...it's the only thing.

With his debut novel, L.A. Times bestselling author Robert Ellis raises the stakes in a heart pounding thriller set in Washington that feels so inside and so twisted it reeks of the darkest truth.

The Mating (Law of the Lycans) remains on the list at #19.

Killer Instincts

While on spring break in Paris, 21-year old William Lynch learns that his family has been murdered and his home burned to the ground, the brutal act of a Boston crime syndicate.

William vows to seek revenge and hires Richard, a grizzled, mysterious ex-mercenary. For a hundred thousand dollars, Richard offers to train the college student in the ways of the killer-for-hire, giving him the skills he needs to seek vengeance on his own terms.

As William matures under Richard's tutelage, he never counts on what happens when he awakens the killer within him...

KILLER INSTINCTS is a story of revenge and retribution in the style of Brian Garfield's vigilante killer novel DEATH WISH, mixed with Charles Bronson's classic assassin-in-training thriller film, THE MECHANIC.

[#21. The 2 star review referred to it as "far fetched".  Any thriller type books tend to be far fetched, just the nature of the genre.]

The Keeping (Sequel to The Mating) remains on the list at #23.

Bonded (Prequel to The Mating) remains on the list at #26.

Band of Sisters: American Women at War in Iraq

* Winner of the 2007 American Authors Association Golden Quill Award
* Winner of the 2007 Military Writers Society of America Founders Award

In Iraq, the front lines are everywhere . . . and everywhere in Iraq, no matter what their job descriptions say, women in the U.S. military are fighting--more than 155,000 of them. A critical and commercial success in hardcover, Band of Sisters presents a dozen groundbreaking and often heart-wrenching stories of American women in combat in Iraq, such as the U.S.s first female pilot to be shot down and survive, the militarys first black female pilot in combat, a young turret gunner defending convoys, and a nurse struggling to save lives, including her own.

[#31. Based on the title you might think of it as a book about a group of women in Iraq, but apparently it is actually a series of stories about individual women. Some of the less flattering reviews seem to indicate it has a somewhat political bent and the author does not display the greatest of writing skills. It is an older book so may be somewhat dated as well.]

The Finding (Law of the Lycans #3) (The Law of the Lycans) still on the list at #36.

Discovering the Rommel Murder: The Life and Death of the Desert Fox

Field Marshal Erwin Rommel's heroic opposition to Hitler in 1944 cost him his life. In this intriguing, well-paced tale of a journalistic coup, Marshall, the first to discover the real events behind Rommel's death, tells how he learned the facts from Rommel's widow and delves into the great general's background and death. He arrived at his conclusions based on his intimate knowledge of men on Rommel's staff and his access to Rommel's papers, including letters from the general to his wife. Here, for the first time in paperback, is the exciting story of how the world learned about the way the "Desert Fox" met his death.

Omaha Beach: D-Day, June 6, 1944

"Balkoski's depiction of 'Bloody Omaha' is the literary accompaniment to the white-knuckle Omaha Beach scene that opens Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan." -- John Hillen, New York Post
In this unforgettable narrative of D-Day, Joseph Balkoski describes the minute-by-minute combat as it unfolded on Omaha Beach, allowing soldiers to speak for themselves as they recall their attempts to maneuver bombers through heavy cloud cover, the claustrophobic terror aboard transports, and the relentless fire that greeted them on the beach. Equal parts oral history and meticulous reconstruction, Omaha Beach is the closest the modern reader can get to experiencing the Normandy landings firsthand.

Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds

The frequently quoted classic exposition of the madness and folly of "popular opinion". Extensive discussion about history's most infamous speculative investment bubbles - the Tulipmania, the South Sea Bubble, and more. Additional coverage and debunking of delusions including alchemy, witch-hunts, The Crusades and duels. Present day writers on economics, such as Andrew Tobias, laud the chapters on economic bubbles.
