2011-10-1 Kishwaukee Gorge North Forest Preserve

We have not hiked here before. It was a short hike but the segment getting down to the river was difficult, due to the steepness of the terrain. There were steps but they were not exactly the easiest to get down and then back up. GPS trip computer says it was 0.55 miles but it took us 69 minutes. It was a lot of work.

I was surprised that there were so many people who came down the hill to the river at the same time we were there. Must have been 10 or 15. Not much there to see and a lot of work to get there, so no idea why it was so popular.

Sign on outhouse warning of video in use. Never saw that at any other Winnebago County Forest Preserve.

For some reason the GPS track log did not work correctly, so no track this time. This is roughly the route we followed though.

After we left we passed through Kishwaukee River FP. It is basical a thin strip of land running along the river from Blackhawk Road south. No trails that I could see. No room for them. Mostly seems to be a canoe launch and fishing access to the river.
