9-2-12 J. Norman Jensen Forest Preserve Short Hike

Wilma and I went out to this FP that we have not hiked previously. We have scouted it out a couple times previously. It was kind of warm for Wilma - 84F - so a short hike was all that was in the cards. She drank 3/4 of a liter of water when we got back to the car.

The trail here is listed as 3/4 of a mile on the FPD web site. Seems about right. It appears to have been a dirt road at one time. Some nice river scenery. There is a brick oven next to the trail at one point. There is also a set of steps that leads down to the river at what is called the overlook on the trail map.

The FP web site has not been updated to include current information or a trail map yet. There is a single table picnic area behind the outhouse at the parking area, and two more down along the river. No well that I could see and none listed on the web site or on the trail map that is posted on the information sign next to the outhouse.

I was unable to recover the GPS track from my GPS for some reason. Not sure what is going on there. It did claim the total hike was 1.18 miles on the trip odometer. Probably about right as we parked outside the gate in case we ran late. Did not want to get locked in.

This park map is a picture I took of the map that is posted. I cleaned it up as best I could, but it is not that great.
