Free Kindle Books 12-23-13

General notes to free Kindle book posts

From the top 100 free list
As is typical, there are also several religious and recipe books on the list today, along with the usual assortment of romance, porn and near porn. I don't call them out because they don't interest me. Click on the link above and search through the Free List Tab if you are interested in such books.

Irreparable Harm (Sasha McCandless Legal Thriller No. 1)
After eight long years, attorney Sasha McCandless is about to make partner at a prestigious law firm. All she has to do is keep her head down and her billable hours up.
When a plane operated by her client slams into the side of a mountain, killing everyone aboard, Sasha gears up to defend the inevitable civil lawsuits.  She soon realizes the crash was no accident: a developer has created an application that can control a commercial plane's onboard computer from a smartphone.
Sasha joins forces with a federal air marshal, and they race to prevent another airline disaster. But when people close to the matter start turning up dead, Sasha must rely on both her legal skills and her Krav Maga training to stop the madman before he kills her.

[#4. Lots of good reviews. It's been free several times in the not too distant past. I have not tried it. Seems a little far fetched, but you never know.]

Paydown (A Leopold Blake Mystery / Thriller Novella)
When a high-flying Wall Street investment banker is found brutally killed, what started out as a simple fraud case turns into expert criminologist Leopold Blake's first ever murder investigation.

Now, with the financial world at the brink of collapse, Blake must put aside his differences and work with NYPD Detective Mary Jordan to find and stop the killer before it's too late. As the glamor of Wall Street is stripped away by a series of catastrophic discoveries, Leopold will have to decide how much he is prepared to risk in order to uncover the truth - and whether it's a price he's willing to pay.

Paydown is a novella of 25,000 words (approx. 95 print pages) set several years before the events detailed in Panic - the first novel in the Leopold Blake series of thrillers.

This one is not on the top 100 free list but it is pretty good and is currently free. I actually paid for it. I think it was 99 cents, but well worth it.

Black Flagged
A graduate of the Department of Defense's experimental Black Flag program, Daniel Petrovich carries a secret he's taken extreme measures to keep buried. A secret hidden in the deepest vaults of the Pentagon.

Someone is trying to raise the fallen program from the ashes and bring Daniel back with it. Someone who holds the key to Daniel's darkest secrets...and has pulled his strings before.

In exchange for the promise of a clean slate, and a chance to keep the life he has built with the woman he loves, Daniel agrees to carry out one final mission: the seemingly uncomplicated assassination of a confirmed terrorist financier.

Daniel's life is about to disintegrate, as he becomes the focus of a relentless federal manhunt, and the target of a ruthlessly vengeful CIA agent. To survive, he'll be forced to release a dark side he'd fought for years to suppress. A dark side critical to his former puppet master's intricate plan to revive the Black Flag program.

Black Flagged lays the foundation for a gritty, unapologetic series exploring the often unceremoniously brutal and serpentine link between covert operations and government agency politics.
