General notes to free Kindle book posts

From the top 100 free list
As is typical, there are also several religious and recipe books on the list today, along with the usual assortment of romance, porn and near porn. I don't call them out because they don't interest me. Click on the link above and search through the Free List Tab if you are interested in such books.

Ethan Justice: Origins (Ethan Justice #1)
***   TOP RATED IN "INTERNATIONAL MYSTERY & CRIME"   ***

In the morning, he's struggling to remember. By the evening, he's struggling to survive. John Smith's risk avoidance policy just expired!

Waking up beside the gorgeous Savannah Jones, John is shocked to learn she was for hire, and he can't pay the price - a thousand pounds or broken legs. In desperation, he turns to best friend, Mark, for the money. Only one problem - Mark has a dagger in his back.

John and Savannah are plunged into a dangerous world where wits and adrenaline are their only weapons and trust in each other their only certainty. As the body count mounts, they discover Mark wasn't the person John thought, and his terrifying invention may well end up killing thousands, John and Savannah included.

A race to recover the missing invention pits the unlikely pairing against ex-SAS psychopath, Gregory Fisher, a man who will stop at nothing and kill anyone in his way to wreak revenge against the Government who stole his livelihood.

When Smith and Jones team up, the result is explosive.

Ethan Justice: Origins is a fast-paced, action-packed, character-driven thriller, guaranteed to make you laugh out loud, cringe, cry and cheer.

Some freebies from Chris Nuttall. Chris is a would be author who hangs out at the Baen slushpile hoping to get a contract that has so far eluded him., He does some good work and some that is a little lacking as far as I am concerned. His SF stuff is a little one dimensional but often still fun to read. I think all of these were posted on Baens' Bar.

 Outside Context Problem
When a UFO crashes near a top secret military base, the American Government realises that aliens have been spying on the human race for years. But even as they rush to unlock the technological secrets in the alien craft, the aliens launched the first step in their plan to invade the Earth and enslave the human race. With a giant mothership approaching the planet and the inhabitants promising peace and plenty, humanity must defeat a vastly superior foe with uncertain motives or lose its freedom forever.

On one side, a powerful alien force…

On the other side, a divided humanity…

The battle for Earth has begun.

{I think I read this one on the Bar. Never posted a review though. Don't recall a whole lot about it.]

Science and Sorcery
Years ago, the magic faded away and was gone. Now, it is back ... and the nightmare is following close behind.

Strange events are being reported all over the globe. Werewolves and vampires, magicians and sorcerers ... ordinary people are becoming monsters, or developing strange inhuman powers. But as the government, the military and religions struggles to come to terms with a radically reshaped reality, a dark force from the days before science is slowly working its way back into the world. If science fails to come to grips with sorcery, the world will plunge into a nightmare without end.

And time is already running out ...

[As a matter of principle, all of my self-published books are DRM-free. You may treat it as you may treat any normal paperback book. Download a free sample from my site – www.chrishanger.net; try before you buy. And if you like, please review.]

[I have not read this one. Not much into magic.]

The Black Knife
The most dangerous form of magic on Touched – a world where those born with magic wield political power – is necromancy, the art of drawing magical power from the act of murder. It has long been banned and rightfully so, yet the ambitious and power-hungry Duke Herod – intent on placing his posterior upon the Golden Throne – has resurrected the art, planning to use it to destroy the Royal Family and take the Throne for himself.

On the eve of their wedding, Prince Eric and Mistress Hind are forced to flee the Palace as Herod’s forces launch a coup against the Emperor. As they make their way to the only safety left in a world touched by necromancy and darkest magic, they are pursued by Herod’s men, while behind them Herod sinks further into madness. If the necromancer cannot be stopped, the entire world is in terrible danger…

…And may be destroyed.

[More magic that did not interest me much.]

Storming Heaven
A thousand years ago, the enigmatic Killers destroyed Earth, leaving only a handful of humans in surviving space-based habitats to rebuild as best as they could. Now, the human race has spread through countless star systems, but remains hopelessly inferior to the Killers. The god-like aliens are systematically driving humanity to the verge of extinction.

Desperate times need desperate measures and humanity launches a crazy plan, to board and seize a Killer starship, hoping to unlock their technology. But the Killer plan to rebuild the universe from scratch is well underway, leaving humanity at the verge of total extinction. If they fail, the Killers will be the only form of life remaining in the entire universe…
