2013_02_03 Kinnikinnick Creek Conservation Area

We had to park outside the main gate as they have "closed" it for the winter as a budgetary move, but their web site traffic says walk in traffic is OK.

We walked up the main park road to the north picnic shelter where the hiking trail trail heads are located. We found a tree across the park road by the bridge over the creek, but it was passable. Just past the bridge we saw a guy in a neon green jacket running along the trail at the far east end of the park.

However, all four of the trails leading away from the picnic area turned out to have trees down on them blocking them to us, so Wilma and I went back down the road a ways and caught the loop on the hill side to the east of the picnic shelter. That loop was open and we had no trouble on it.

We saw a woman, dog, and young girl skiing when we came back. They were near the bridge. I told them the trails were all blocked except for the hill loop.

When we got back to the main gate a cop was there. She asked if we knew the park was closed. Pretty simple question. I mentioned the district web site allows for walk in traffic. She said no one told her.

Lots of work walking in 2-3 inches of snow. But, a nice time since Wilma and I have not been out walking since a week ago Saturday due to the weather.
