Free Kindle Books 2-17-13

I thought I would post some free Kindle books. maybe I will do it on a regular basis. These mostly came from the top 100 free Kindle books for today. I have not read any of them so know little about them. Most were on yesterday's top 100 free list as well. Most have a fair number of 4 and 5 star reviews. Yesterday and today were unusually good days to find books that interested me on the top 100 free list.

The rest came from free lists at ereaderiq.com.

Do all of us a favor. If you download a free Kindle book and read it, write a review on Amazon. Even if you start reading it and decide you don't like it, please do a review and tell us a little about it.

My personal reviewing system reserves 1 star for books that I lose interest in reading. Two stars is for books I read all of but that are not very good.

I don't download every book I could, nor do I read all of them I download. But I make a practice of reviewing every book I read and those that I start but lose interest in. That includes non-Kindle books. These are all books I thought worthy of downloading. I won't read all of them, or try to, but they seemed worthy of further attention.

Dead Blow Hammer (A Handy Mann Novel)
Jim Mann is a homebody. While he trades grain commodities out of his house in a western suburb of Minneapolis, he spends most of his time helping his neighbors. If they ask, he helps. If they don’t ask, he offers. Everyone on Barbosa Street thinks of him as Handy. It would have been a peaceful life if he hadn’t trusted his neighbors. If he hadn’t traded home repair work for Bo Stinson’s accounting expertise. If he hadn’t fallen for Gustav Olson’s long-lost daughter. If he hadn’t, in true DIY stubbornness, tried to do it all himself. Dead Blow Hammer tells the story of how one misstep—in this case, the first step on the stairway to Angie Stinson’s bedroom—drew Handy Mann into a life-or-death struggle with evil he never imagined could be so close at hand, a struggle he will need every tool in his toolbox to survive.

Wet Desert, a Novel

Left temporarily in charge of the Bureau, Grant must react when the first dam is attacked. He faces the unthinkable task of mitigating the massive flood roaring down the Colorado. The flood will eventually threaten the mighty Hoover Dam, and if Hoover fails, the other dams downstream will fall like dominos. Working with the FBI, Grant uses his engineering skills, river knowledge, and plenty of gut instinct in an attempt to outmaneuver the terrorist. The chase will lead all the way downstream to the Gulf of California in a cat and mouse game where the stakes are high and the potential for destruction is enormous.

Craig Lockman--no one had called him that in fifteen years.
Not since his days at the Agency. Not since he was trained to kill creatures that were supposed to exist only in nightmares.
Yet the teenage girl on his doorstep not only knows his real name, she claims she's his daughter. Before Lockman can learn how the girl found him, he's attacked by a black-ops team of assassins. But these aren't ordinary killers--they're heavily armed vampires sent by his most hated enemy.

What Zombies Fear
When Victor Tookes went to work that beautiful spring day, he never expected to see a man eaten alive in the street in front of his office. After convincing himself that they really were zombies, he makes a trip from his house in Pennsylvania to his family home in Virginia, battling zombies all the way. His three and a half year old son was bitten on the leg, but doesn't turn into a zombie. Instead, he turns into something more than human. Victor quickly discovers that everything he knew about zombies was wrong. Not all of them were mindless, uncoordinated, rotting ghouls; some of them were bigger, faster, stronger or smarter than when they were human. A small percentage of humans are genetically immune to the parasite. Instead of turning these humans into mindless shamblers, they gain enhanced abilities. These new abilities will be pushed to their limits in their quest to carve out a safe haven to call home.

Lucifer's Pocket
It's New Years Eve in Times Square when Alex Marshall suddenly finds himself alone. He's the only one of millions gathered there who is moving; the rest of whom are all in some kind of trance. Shortly he is found by the Underground Society who removes him from New York and takes him to their base in North Carolina. In the next couple of hours he discovers that the world he thought he was living in is a deception. Who really is controlling the world? "They're the true embodiment of evil itself--as vicious and obvious as hydras if they have a knife in your back, as desperate and pathetically cowardly when they're cornered, and as friendly as anybody you would ever meet face to face, when they think you have power over them. Many of them are very intelligent and exceedingly clever and cunning in their own fashion. They're masterful liars, totally without peer or conscience. They're completely ruthless when it comes to executing their designs, as well as incredibly patient and intelligent in waiting for and recognizing the right time to make their strike." Built from the Bible story about The Tower of Babel this is an Orwell style science fiction techno thriller with a very slight twist of philosophy.

50 Shades of Gray Matter: Book 2 (The Swordsman Series)
I realized the intuitive manner in which I killed the undead... it was a bit like how dear Uncle Louie taught me how to find a woman's G-spot. All those years back, seems like a lifetime ago, we'd be sitting out on the wrap-around porch of the home my grandfather built. Usually, it was late, and the rest of the family had fallen asleep-- Uncle Louie and I weren't the sort that felt compelled to sleep our lives away.
