Rush Creek Conservation Area 5-5-12

The second place we stopped to look at is a county conservation area 2 counties over. It is a lot closer and has over 7 miles of trails. The length of the trail system and being a lot closer makes it more likely I will be taking Wilma there some time. Maybe tomorrow, although the weather forecast is not promising. It is a McHenry County Conservation District facility located just outside of Harvard, IL. It is a fairly typical county forest preserve or conservation area site with the usual features. This one has 2+ miles of hiking trails and a 5 mile horse trail. A fishing pond with benches conveniently situated all around the pond. A camping area and a picnic area. It has an electric entrance gate controlled by a keypad. I suspect it is for the use of campers so they can get in and out after the park closes. Don't recall ever seeing that before anywhere else we have been.

This one is not far away, and with 7+ miles of trails to explore is high on our list. Hopefully the weather holds and it does not get too hot for Wilma.

This is the park map I extracted from the brochure on their web site.

We saw a turkey in an adjoining field on our way out. It is shown at the end of the video.
