Free Kindle Books 4-28-13

PLEASE. Do everyone a favor and write an Amazon review if you end up reading a book (or trying to and giving up in disgust). It does not have to be much. Just tell what you think of the book.

At no surprise, dysfuntional [sic] PI Devlin Haskell falls in bed with his latest client. She's gone by the time he wakes and hasn't the foggiest notion that, from now on, he'll be dealing with the Russian mob. Along the way he finds himself at odds with a Russian butcher, local police and an FBI task force investigating human trafficking. In the process of getting answers Dev washes up on the far side of the law. He's shot, beaten, car bombed and used as a human shield, all in the name of justice, at least as he comes to see it. An entertaining tale of rank ineptitude and one night stands.  Russian Roulette is another fast paced tale from the master of the bizarre, Mike Faricy.

[#1. The 3 star review mentions grammar issues with the books so if that annoys you - be forewarned. That the author misspelled "dysfunctional" in his summary suggests maybe this comment is not out of line.]

[#4. Back for a second day. A book that I snagged when it was free back in May of 2012 but never got around to reading.]

[#15. Second day.]

[#23. Its second day on the list.]

Nikola Tesla: Imagination and the Man That Invented the 20th Century
[#28. Its 8th day on the list. This one is definitely not for everyone, but as an electrical engineer, it caught my eye.]

Day Soldiers
Book One in the Day Soldiers Trilogy.

A legion of vampires and werewolves has declared war on the human race.

For ten years now, humanity has been at war with the creatures of darkness. The war has changed the world. The day now belongs to humanity and the night belongs to things once thought to exist only in myths and legends... but there is hope. This new enemy has united humanity and an army has stepped forward to protect the light from the darkness. An army of heroes.

The Day Soldiers.

Eighteen year old Lily Baxter always knew the Day Soldiers would be a major part of her life. She had been preparing for it since she was eight. She was ready to go to war. The one thing she wasn't prepared for was the day the war came to her.

Part horror, part comedy, part adventure, Day Soldiers will take you on an exciting ride through a world where monsters are monsters and the only thing they fall in love with is the taste of human blood.

[#30. I am pretty sure I have seen this up for free before, maybe on the top 100 free list. I probably passed it by, dismissing it as so called young adult fiction. It is not labeled that way, but the summary is written in a way that suggests it to me, as are several of the reviews. If YA fiction is not for you, perhaps passing it by is a good option. OTOH, it is free today and you are not out anything but some of your time if you chose to get it.]

A must read. The author is able to uncannily transport the reader into a lost chapter of history, as experienced by a young G.I. infantry man in 1944-45 Europe. Historical first person account by Memphis author J.P. Blumenfeld of his World War II experiences as a jewish US infantry man and his unit in WW2 in combat, captured behind Nazi enemy lines. John Browning was the most influential gun designer who ever lived. After building his first firearm at the age of thirteen, he went on to create a series of radical blueprints for pistols, rifles and machine guns that changed the way wars were fought and streets were policed.

His fingerprints are still on every gun manufactured today.

But who was the man behind the weapons?

How did he manage to revolutionise the way guns worked?

And what drove him to keep innovating right through his life.

'John Browning: Man and Gunmaker' by the best-selling military thriller writer James Barrington is a readable, concise history to the man and his legacy.

It is a must-read for gun collectors, enthusiasts and anyone interested in the history of firearms.

James Barrington is a trained military pilot and the author of worldwide best-sellers such as 'Manhunt', 'Payback' and 'Overkill'.
