REVIEWS:

"I read Dark Horse by J.R. Rain. He's the author of Moon Dance, that I reviewed last column. The author is a private investigator, and it shows; this is another fast moving and entertaining detective story. Rain is surely destined for larger success, if he can get the right break; his fiction is fun reading."
—PIERS ANTHONY, bestselling author of Xanth

"I finished Dark Horse late last night. I enjoyed it immensely—very good story, J.R.! I really liked your dialogue, which kept me chuckling each time I sat down to read the book. Add great character and scene descriptions and a well-paced plot, and you've got a gripping story indeed. I can honestly say your book was as entertaining as anything I've ever read from Patricia Cornwell. I can easily see Dark Horse moving to the big screen!"
—AIDEN JAMES, bestselling author of Plague of Coins

"Dark Horse is one of the best books I've read in a long time! A great classic detective story with a modern twist. Unique and interesting characters (I think I'm half in love with Jim Knighthorse now!), a great plot that kept me guessing until the end, and some of the funniest lines I've read anywhere. Rain does an amazing job of blending suspense, mystery and humor in this fantastic debut novel destined for the keeper shelf."
—GEMMA HALLIDAY, bestselling author of Spying in High Heels

Origins: Centurion's Rise

Book 2 in the Origins series

ROME. The mere mention of the name instills images of grandeur. The mighty empire was a guiding light for the civilized world for a thousand years. Was that by chance or careful design?

A psychiatric patient named Hastelloy has the answer. He believes he was there for it all: Caesar, legions, gladiators. According to his tale even the great gods Jupiter, Vesta and the advent of Christianity were not immune to his influence. Is he crazy or is it still crazy to ignore him?

Meanwhile, an NSA agent closes in on the location of his abducted partner and answers to the age old question - are we alone in the universe? To gain enlightenment he will have to face specters from his own past to safeguard himself, his family, and possibly the entire planet. The stakes have never been higher for him or his clandestine agency.

Julius Caesar, Cleopatra, Jesus Christ. You may know the names and dates, but not the why or how. This gripping thriller will challenge everything you thought you knew about the most dynamic era in human history and draw into question if there will be a future. Once again, the Origins of all will be revealed.

"Basil Sands has a knack for blending action and intrigue in an all-too realistic setting. In Karl's Last Flight, the future is reminiscent of our recent past. I just hope there are heroes like Basil's heroes fighting on our side. "

I just finished 65 Below. It was a wonderful albeit wild ride. I look forward to listening to your other novels, God willing. I am a disabled vet and I found this novel both encouraging and inspiring. I can't get out so much in the great outdoors like I used to but I loved the imagery of it that you shared.

Wow. Where do I start. Just finished 65 Below. Once I started... I couldn't stop. I finished it in two days. I can't wait to start the next one...

---
I ... was riveted to each one (of your stories). I noticed that they all intertwined with one another, and I am very happy that I listened to them in order. Are there any more in the works, and will they be connected somehow to the others?

I am not sure how I found this author, I suspect it was a promo on the end of a podcast I was listening to. 65 Below is a action thriller based in Alaska, its set in a post 9-11 world and every second American character appears to be ex Marine or special forces. I hope no international terrorists read this as there is enough in here to give people ideas regarding how to kill off large population areas without damaging property or infrastructure. In fact its so simple and obvious I am not sure why it has never been done. Basil has given the Americans a new enemy. An action thriller well worth the read.
