12-18-11 Rock Cut State Park Hike

3.4 miles. Just under 2 hours. I walk slower in the snow. We parked at the route 173 parking lot, went in on the horse trail to the east towards Puri Crest. Then along the campground and over to the main park road. Then up the road to where we went under the utility lines and up a horse trail back to the parking lot.

The park has a nice new map! It has all the trail markers on the map now. It can be downloaded from the DNR web site, or from here. My version has the electric lines shown on it that bisect the park.It does have at least one error in it. The orange line signifying a paved trail that comes from Perryville Road along Hart Road (B1 to B13) does not actually exist. Hart Road is the trail, although I have noticed some work that might indicate they are adding a trail along the south side of Hart Road, but it did not actually exist the last time I was in that area. Where it turns south along the n-s park road (B13/E29 going south), it is there but is dirt.

A downed tree on the trail.
Rabbit tracks.
Another downed tree.
Interesting dead tree.
I emailed the park super about both downed trees. Not a real long video today. Still a nice early winter hike in the forest.
