During our visit to Roland Olson FP today, we came across the conjunction of the Stone Bridge Trail and the Long Prairie Trail at the far SE corner of the FP. SBT belongs to Roscoe Township and LPT belongs to Boone County Conservation District. It appears LPT goes a short distance (maybe 1/2 a mile) from the county line outside of Boone County into Winnebago County.
The SBT is crushed rock, and the LPT is paved. SBT goes from Roland Olson FP NW to the corner of Rockton Avenue and route 251 where it stops. LPT goes east from the preserve about 14 miles to the eastern edge of Boone County where it just dead ends. They follow a no longer used RR right of way.
Several internet sites claim it is 5.8 miles long. But one of them says it only goes to McCurry Road and it actually extends all the way upto Rockton Road. Someday Wilma and I will walk it and find out.
I shot some footage of SBT at the preserve.
Then some at the Rockton Avenue trail head.
ETA 12-8-11:
I used the measure function in Base Camp. It says that it is about 0.5 miles from the county line to McMichael Road. and 4.7 more miles to McCurry Road, and about 5.7 to Rockton Road, so it appears the 5.8 miles figure is accurate. Not sure if that is all the way from the county line or from McMicheal Road. Either seems reasonable.
